FINCHLEY HOLD THEIR HEADS HIGH
Kerry Duffy sees contentious judging contribute to Londoners defeat in Las Vegas.
Finchley & District ABC went down 7-5 to Barrys Boxing Gym in their annual Las Vegas Show, held at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino on May 31st. But the margin was not indicitive of the Londoners determined efforts.
The opening bout saw Finchley's Ozzie Yiacoup outpoint Pernell Fisher in a hard fought contest, setting the standard for the rest of the evening.
Andrew Joicey didnt do enough against Oscar Torres who won on points, while Finchleys Ollie Patterson used his reach impeccably for a points victory over Nicholas Kay.
Tommy Tear demonstrated good technique but was unable to to wear down the relentless pressure from Thomas Ordonez and became the visitors second loser.
Norris Thompson took the decision out of the judges hands when he forced the corner of Steven Jones to throw in the towel at the start of the third.
Jonathon Hale, the youngest of the Finchley squad performed superbly. I thought he would provide the second stoppage in a row against Zach Kuester but he managed to stay upright and after three rounds Hale had to settle for the decision.
